Visiting New England in the peak of fall foliage is something I’ve dreamt of for years. I had a chance this year to travel through Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont as autumn colors surrounded the landscapes. Franconia Notch, Crawford Notch, and Baxter State Park were highlights of this visit but there was so much between my destinations! A quick note to those who are looking to visit Baxter, the park now charges $16 a day for those who do not live in Maine. The roads can be iffy and it is best to have a high clearance vehicle to get to certain destinations. Also, it is nearly impossible to find views of the iconic Mount Katahdin once you enter the park, the best views I had were from Abol Bridge.

New Hampshire offers so much in the way of the normal New England road trip. Mount Washington road is worth the adventure! However, the $65 for 2 of us just to drive up seemed a little steep…no pun intended. Crawford Notch State Park and the famous Kancamagus Highway are must visits! Just be prepared for long lines of traffic and crowds if you hit at the wrong time. We were lucky enough to see the Kanc just after sunrise as we camped along the highway. No crowds!

Franconia Notch State Park in Vermont was bumper to bumper traffic for nearly an hour just to reach our destination of the Artist Bluff Trail-as seen in the first picture. We got lucky and found the last spot near Echo Lake and had to wait in line on the hike up….an odd experience but worth the views!
